File Formats

How to use Photoshop: Photoshop is full of little tricks, which can help you create the picture you want. A quick tip on how to use it is by opening Photoshop, clicking a picture if you want to go straight to editing or if you want to create something from scratch you click on ‘new’ from the top tool bar, this will come up with a white canvas where you can perform what you want.

If you are looking to create a new layer, you sort of perform the same steps as you would when creating a new page, you click layer at the top and add new, you can then number them in order or name them to something that’s to do with you project, totally your choice, to duplicate the later you right click the layer on the side of your screen and click duplicate, as simple as that really.

If you are looking for a custom colour that you want to make, you can click on the colour and swatches tool that gives you the options to modify a specific colour and save it for future work, it’s located easily as you soon as you open Photoshop on the right of your screen.

If you’re looking to add text onto your project that you are making, you can click on the ‘T’ tool on a side toolbar where you can then click on it and select it wherever on your screen, from here you can then type whatever you desire into the text bar, if you wanted to add colour the text you can then click on a colour tab where you can change it to a desired colour.

JPEG:
JPEG is a file format, which you can have the option to save your picture as, JPEG is usually used for coloured and digital images, it’s the most commonly used file format for digital cameras or photographic image devices.

GIF:
GIF also known as (Graphics interchange format), A GIF is a graphical image that moves, typically seen on some web pages, there are also animated GIFS that none stop move, they repeatedly make the same pattern over and over.



PNG:
A PNG also know as (Portable network graphics) is a raster graphics file format that supports lossless data compression, it is known as the most used lossless image compression format on the internet, the file format was designed for transferring images across the internet.

PSD:
PSD also known as (Photoshop document), is the default format that Photoshop uses for saving data, when saving a image on Photoshop it’ll come up as a default format straight away but can easily be changed, it’s a different kind of format that is only Photoshop based as it is a independent editing software which uses tools like layers and image flattening on it.

AI:
Adobe illustrator is best known for creating graphics, artists and graphical designers mainly use it, and they mainly use this to create for example a company logo or a new sports team logo, and promotional poster for a project they maybe be working on. It’s not only just used for graphic purposes it can also be used for illustrations and charts, for people who are new to the software it will be initially hard to understand form the begging but learning from it can gain you very beneficial information for future projects.

TIFF:
TIFF is a computer image format for storing raster graphics images, it is used by graphical artists and mainly people in the publishing industry, the format is supported by many various image manipulation applications like desktop publishing, faxing, 3D applications and medical image applications, the format can be ranged in many classes like, the common ones, grey scale, RGB full colour.

RAW:
A camera RAW image file contains data from the image sensor of a digital camera or a image scanner or a motion picture film scanner, the reason they are labelled RAW files is because they have not yet been processed for print. Usually they are converted through a raw converter and then conversed into a positive file format such as TIFF or JPEG.
